Set Design
‘Welcome to my Dreams’ is a duet that aims to narrate the voices that exist inside our heads in the dance space. The choreographer questions how we communicate to each other when we are not on the same page, when we make up conversations in our heads, ahead of an actual conversation.
Having voices inside your head and talking to yourself is like being on your own planet. With that in mind, using colours of the galaxy and UV lighting in a section of the piece, the feeling is completely altered to a more psychedelic and dreamy one.
Influenced by the galaxy colours and ideas the set design developed into a simple structure of balls and hoops moving in a diagonal shape that gives it movement and creates the feeling of distance with the sizes of the objects decreasing as the installation moves upwards.
The colours used on the set were also used in the costumes to create a complete image of the dreamy, hallucinating state one person can be in.
